Mardi Gras 2018

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is one of the oldest continuously operating LGBTQI+ organisations in Australia and the world. It was built on the foundations laid by early community activists who fought for LGBTQI+ rights in a time of widespread, institutionalised oppression and discrimination.

Festival Program

In 2017 I was hired as the lead Graphic Designer and in collaboration with the Creative Director gave shape to what turned out to be a very successful 40th year anniversary.

The theme was “40 Years of Evolution”. The idea of the “butterfly effect” was applied to the history of the Mardi Gras: the actions of a small group of activists transformed forever the landscape for LGBTQI+ Australia. The scientific graphics of the “butterfly effect” were used as a base for the visual identity and a display typeface was created for the season.
